Perfect
Song by Simple Plan
Hey, dad, look at me
Think back and talk to me
Did I grow up according to plan?
And do you think I'm wasting my time
Doing things I wanna do?
But it hurts when you disapprove all along
And now I try hard to make it
I just wanna make you proud
For all the kids struggling to live up to the expectations of the elders (specially parents) in their lives.
A lot of us feel or have felt the same way growing up. Parents keep pushing us to work hard and to do better and often forget to tell us that they are proud of us however we are, that they can see we are trying, they they approve of us.
The song talks about the want of a child to shine in parental eyes, which at times leads to children crushing their own wishes and desires, eventually leading to them being unhappy in their lives. It talks about the fear of disappointing one’s parents and the feeling that one would never be good enough for them.
Studies suggest that lack of parental support during childhood is associated with increased adult depression and chronic health problems.
